What is the Big Bear Run?

The Big Bear Run is more than a 5K race - it is a professionally-timed, fun-filled, community event and the core fundraiser for M-A Athletics. It takes over $80,000 each year for the M-A Athletic Boosters to fund the basic needs of our teams which support over 900 committed student-athletes, insuring that our diverse high school student body benefits from an excellent education in and out of the classroom. Last year, the Big Bear Run raised enough money to purchase $18,000 in uniforms, $23,000 in basic equipment and training supplies, and $39,000 in coaching stipends. Without this base line support, the continuity of these enriching athletic programs will be compromised as the financial need falls into the gap between basic state funding and the reality of our athletes’ promise. The Big Bear Run gathers families, neighbors, friends, students, athletes and businesses together for the common goal of supporting Menlo-Atherton High School athletic programs. Celebrating our 7th Annual race this year on Sunday, May 6, 2012, we anticipate well over 1,200 registered participants making the Big Bear Run one of the community’s most beloved events.
